Philosophy and Mission
Our Philosophy
The philosophy of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm was conceived and nurtured in the Charism of our Foundress, Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory. With the heart of a Mother and Foundress, supported by God's love and wisdom, she was inspired to:
- Identify the spiritual, personal, and social needs of the elderly.
- Initiate programs and services for them.
- Clasp the hand of an aged person and give meaning to the autumn of life.
- Form a religious community preparing the way for others who would be dedicated to the
- care and service of the aged.
We continue to carry on Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory's spirit and vision. Her legacy of compassionate care for the elderly is realized in our service to the special people we have the privilege of serving.
Carmelite Mission
We, the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, as women of the church inspired by Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory, respond with faith, courage and love to the healing ministry of Christ. Our philosophy is stated in her words:
Our mission is reflected in the philosophy of care inherent in all policies and practices promulgated within the health care facilities under our supervision, thereby charging administration, boards of directors and medical staff with promoting the Christian mission of healing and care.
On a local level, each Home has a Mission Effectiveness Coordinator. Each coordinator assists in implementing the Mission Statement and the philosophy of the Congregation throughout that particular Carmelite facility and working with other Coordinators to reinforce our mission throughout all facilities.
Carmelite System
In 1999, the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm formed a non-profit Corporation known as the Carmelite System for the Aged and Infirm. By the formation of this System the Sisters have arranged to perpetuate and strengthen their mission in long-term health ministry in the facilities under their auspices. The System hopes to be a beacon of Catholic health care for the aged and infirm and to all whose lives the Sisters touch. It seeks to proclaim the value of life and the beauty and dignity of old age, striving to maintain a leadership role in the shaping and delivery of services and programs to the care of the elderly.
